The Department was established in 1975. It originally offered only a bachelor's program, admitting graduates of vocational senior high schools in civil engineering, architecture, or related fields for a four-year day program, as well as graduates of five-year, three-year, or two-year junior colleges in related fields for a two-year day program or a three-year in-service evening program.
